CompTIA: New tech job postings Hit 3 Year High
New job postings for technology occupations reached a three-year high and employers throughout the economy added tech workers in April, according to an analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data by CompTIA, a suburban Chicago-based industry association.
Employers across all industries listed 271,483 new job postings for tech occupations in April, according to the report. In all, there were more than 575,000 active job postings for tech positions last month.
Tech occupation employment, which includes technology professionals working in all industry sectors, increased by 260,000 In April. That pushed the unemployment rate for tech occupations down to 3.5%.
“The factors that created pressure on tech occupations throughout 2025 appear to be easing, as employers clarify their AI strategies and renew progress on digital transformation initiatives,” said Seth Robinson, vice president, industry research, CompTIA. “The increase in job postings, which include a range of technology roles, confirms the need to build core tech skills as a foundation for more advanced capabilities.”
Tech industry employment decreased by about 6,300 jobs last month. Modest employment gains in IT and custom software services and systems design occupations were offset by staffing reductions in telecommunications and cloud infrastructure, data processing and hosting.
Active employer job postings for technology roles covered a range of core tech competencies and have been increasing in volume over the last four months. For example, active job postings for systems engineers and architects have increased 42.7% since January; software developers and engineers, 32.3%; cybersecurity engineers and analysts, 23.2%; and tech support specialists, 16.1%.
Several metropolitan areas saw notable jumps in the number of tech job postings last month, including Washington (+1,945), New York City (+1,771), Philadelphia (1,452), Chicago (1,407) and San Francisco (+1,339).
CompTIA’s analysis reveals that 20% of April tech job postings sought workers with zero to three years of experience; 28% specified workers with four to seven years’ experience; and 17%, workers with eight years or more experience.

Pax8 and NinjaOne Forge Partnership to Expand Unified IT Operations and Cybersecurity Solutions for MSPs
Pax8 has entered into a partnership with NinjaOne designed to help MSPs and managed intelligence providers (MIPs) explore and adopt AI-related solutions.
Through the agreement, Pax8 will introduce MSPs and MIPs to NinjaOne when partners are seeking unified IT operations, including remote monitoring and management (RMM). Gartner: Autonomous Business and AI Layoffs May Create Budget Room, but Do Not Deliver Returns
Among organizations piloting or deploying autonomous business capabilities, approximately 80% report workforce reductions, according to a survey by Gartner. However, those reductions do not appear to translate into return on investment.
The survey found that workforce reduction rates were nearly equal among respondents reporting higher ROI from autonomous technologies and those experiencing only modest gains or negative outcomes.
Using technologies such as AI agents, intelligent automation, RPA, digital twins and tokenized assets, autonomous business will move organizations from simple augmentation and automation to true autonomy, where both machines and people have more autonomy.
“Many CEOs turn to layoffs to demonstrate quick AI returns; however, this disposition is misplaced,” said Helen Poitevin, Distinguished VP Analyst at Gartner. “Workforce reductions may create budget room, but they do not create return. Organizations that improve ROI are not those that eliminate the need for people, but those that amplify them by aggressively investing more in skills, roles and operating models that allow humans to guide and scale autonomous systems.”
Gartner surveyed 350 global business executives in the third quarter of 2025 to understand the current state of autonomous business at enterprises. Qualifying organizations reported enterprise-wide annual revenue of at least $1 billion or equivalent, and they had been piloting or had already deployed at least one of the following: AI agents, intelligent automation or autonomous technologies.
